Research shows that dance/expressive movement is beneficial not only to the physical well-being of individuals with dementia, but also provides cognitive stimulation, mood improvement, and enhanced self-expression. This hands-on, interactive presentation will provide an overview of a fun, engaging, and esteem-building movement program for individuals with dementia and reinforce the importance of movement as a form of communication. The workshop will discuss how to modify this movement program to engage participants with varying cognitive and physical abilities and various socio- cultural backgrounds. Discussion will also include a summary of evidence-based outcomes related to how dance/expressive movement can improve the quality of life for individuals with dementia.
